They are bright red or bright yellow when ripe, they contain about 80% sugar (glucose, fructose, sucrose), they are very chewy, they have a hard feel and wrinkled outer appearance when dried (which is how they are mostly sold) but have a soft feel and smooth appearance when fresh. Asides the natural sugar content, dates contain various vitamins and mineral as well as other nutrients and so eating dates, have a lot of benefits and this is why they are becoming increasingly popular.
